- Description:
Demolition of the existing and construction of the new Ballyroan Library, area 1,400m², at Orchardstown Ave. Rathfarnham, Dublin 14. The new building is part single and part two storey and includes all necessary ancillary works. The car park (30 spaces) to the south and the adjoining footpaths to the building were remodelled. The new building
is a high quality finish and has achieved an ‘A’ BER energy rating. The library features the use of high quality concrete in its construction. 16m beams were used to create the large open space that forms the centre of the building. There is an internal street, with a very high ceiling almost like an atrium. There is a complex BMS managing heating, ventilation and heat recovery. A timber lining snakes in and out of the public and private elements to clearly identify those public and private realms. Two seminar rooms can be divided into separate rooms of varying sizes, giving the library flexibility.
The car park to the south of the library has been remodelled to make it friendlier to pedestrians and contains a seating area.
