  • Description:
The works comprised of the construction of a two storey restaurant building on the North campus of the National University of Ireland, Maynooth. The development consists of a ground floor restaurant to cater for 450 people, a ground floor café to cater for 100 people, a first floor café to cater for 100 people, a meeting room for 60 people, associated kitchens, stores and plant. The overall gross floor area is in the order of 2427m2. In addition the development incorporated site works including a new hard paved plaza, stand alone covered bin store, soft landscaping, relocation of the bandstand from Maynooth Park to the new plaza, bicycle stores and a new set down area for deliveries to the kitchens.  The new restaurant building links to the existing sports hall at ground and first floor level and provides a new shared entrance for both facilities. Prior to work commencing on the construction of the new building, the remains of
a building that previously occupied the site was required to be demolished. This building was also a restaurant until it was destroyed by fire in November 2008. The demolition works required the break-up and removal of a concrete floor slab in addition to redundant masonry walls and steelwork that survived the fire. Masonry walls dividing the new building and the existing structure were also augmented to reposition and improve accesses between the buildings.
